Anyone remember that old movie from the '80's? I remember watching it at my friend Marty's house. The climax of the flick is when the lead character does a back flip on his BMX bike, right at the end of a clutch race sequence. I was speechless.
Well, this Danny MacAskill fellow is so rip-roarin' amazing on his bike, I'd love to see a full-length movie of him taking on the local heavies in a BMX competition.

"It's going to take a lot more than skill for Cru Jones to conquer the toughest BMX challenge in the world. It's going to take a miracle."

lazy blogging and some new stuff

Liss and Lindsicus surprised Brade and I with a silly Easter egg hunt on Friday. It was fantastically fun geeking out and running around the backyard like a loon.

On to the real Easter. We hopped in Mr. Orange and drove on up to NoVA for a nice weekend.


When we were there, we did the DC thing, the egg hunt thing with Ms. Sophia (she has a laugh to die for) and had a nice visit with Gino and Syd. Can't wait to eat all the goodies the E. bunny sent our way. Including a FULL size 'Reester' Easter chocolate and peanut butter bunny. Only about 800 calories per bite. Giddyup.


On Sunday, we went down to get Smithsonian-smart in the Air and Space and Natural History museums.


How DID they do it? Wonder no more! Thank you Smithsonian!

NoVa Bday

Last weekend, we went up to NoVa to see some old friends and celebrate Heather's big 40. It got me thinking. When I was younger,I thought that 40 was old...really old. Now that it is just a dozen or so years away, my thinking has changed. Drastically.

I hope I am as cool as Heather is when I reach "middle age".

What a drab saying.."middle age." Yech. I'll ask one of the copywriters at work to think of something more creative and awesome to call it.

Lissy and I decided to make H a card. An over sized personalized card. Awww yeah. So we made some goofy faces, grabbed some paper, crayons and yarn and went to work. We have a friend who told us that the recipe for a rad card is a goofy face. Whaddaya think?


H lost her original wedding ring a while back, and her hubbie JTOH surprised her with a new one. What a guy.


Avery is the coolest niece in the world. 'nuff said.

ever lose a month?

The month of October is a hazy blur for me. No, I'm not referencing a drug-induced stupor. Rather, a work-induced stupor.

After months of work and preparation, the Walmart Smart Network was launched. I am a Asst. Broadcast Producer on the account and boy, did we have a lot to do in the month leading up to the official start.

There is really no way to glam it up--I am talking about TV screens in Walmart. But the really remarkable thing is, with this new High Definition network, over 100 million+ weekly Walmart shoppers will be exposed to these screens starting in 2010. For right now, its starting in 300+ stores and 50 to 60 a month added for all of 2009.

So the next time you are in a Walmart with HD screens trying to sell you crap, think of me fondly--and the month of October I sacrificed so you know what latest products are on Rollback.

I stumbled upon a blog earlier this week, and I have caught up in the tragedy. I have also been really blown away at the amount of support this family has received from perfect strangers.

In a world which is increasingly more cynical---and in a political climate which can be ignited by the smallest spark, it is nice to see the good.

"Mr. Orange"

Lenny’s engine and destroyed transmission barely had time to cool before we had to figure out how to replace him. I wish we could get by with just one vehicle, but that is not realistic. We live 20 minutes outside of the city and it is out of the question to carpool since we drive in completely opposite directions.

Sigh.

After a blitz of online and in-person research, we decided to buy a Scion xD. The only problem? There was a 1-2 month wait for the vehicle to arrive from Japan after we ordered it. Luckily, we found a dealership (1 out of 4 in the area) that actually had 3 xD’s in their showroom. A flurry of test-drives, contemplation and debate ensued. The major hang-up? The model they had in stock was Orange. Well, to be more accurate, “Hot Lava.”
The marketer in me went tug-a-war with the more practical sense of style. “Am I Orange?”

The car had everything we wanted. Manual transmission, awesome MPG (up to 40), hatchback, trusted brand, fantastic resale, cool design. Our moment of decision arrived.

Blink.
We signed on the dotted line and “Mr. Orange” joined the Reese motorcade. A month later, and we have absolutely no post-purchase dissonance. Now, the only thing we are nervous about is sticking out in a sea of speeding highway vehicles. 5 weeks down, and no tickets to speak of.

Knock on faux wood. (I’m in a cubicle).

The day, the tranny died

Bye bye mister Leonard the Lumina, aka "Lenny". We've been through a lot, you and I. You got me through college and then some. It's okay that your transmission got sick and decided not to get better. I don't blame you. I'll always remember how we drove across the country that one time and you didn't even so much as hiccup.

RIP Lenny, RIP.

I am starting a new position at Martin tomorrow morning. For the past year, I have been in the Media department, toiling away on a Dell. *shudder*

No more! Tomorrow I am making the leap to a MacBook Pro and I couldn't be happier. I'll be in Broadcast Production as an Assistant Producer. I am gonna get paid to geek out. Life is good.

my computer gets hot, and the fan turns on

Poor 'lil guy, he is sucking wind like he just climbed 3 flights of stairs.

I have a 12inch PowerBook G4. I named it Brenito Jr.'s Sketchpad or 'the sidekick' (original, I know). As we near our 3 year anniversary, the love is still alive and well. We've had some good times, and we've had some bad times, but its been a great ride. Here's to another great year my little aluminum friend.

Craigslist

Tonight, I posted on Craigslist for the first time, ever. You might think it odd, but I have never purchased anything from this site or any other peer to peer site ala Ebay, etc. Does this say that I am naturally skeptical and I have a hard time trusting the honesty of anonymous strangers?

Yeah, that sounds pretty accurate.

Hopefully this helps me get over my stigma, cause I have friends who SWEAR by the sheer awesomeness of buying used stuff cheap and local off the Craigs.

Baby steps though...I am not actually buying or selling any products, I am actually posting for my side project Brent Reese Films. I know, it sounds narcissistic. I figured its just easier for people to remember. And they have to trust me cause I am using my name.

20 inch TV's are too small

About 5 years ago I bought a 20 inch TV from Wal-Mart for a whopping $150. I think its time for an upgrade. I honestly want to throw it off the roof. Wouldn't it be cool if it exploded in a fire-ball of doom just like in the movies?
